BRIDGE ROUTE 66
Carolina, Puerto Rico
In 1995 the Department of Transportation and Public Works of the government of Puerto Rico held an International Design Competition for the design of a bridge to span over the Río Grande de Loíza.

Twenty-four entries from seven countries were received. Our entry won first place. Part of an urban expressway, it accommodates six traffic lanes and a pedestrian-bicycle access across the bridge. The design solution was to construct a single pylon, 100 meters high, and hang the roadway from suspension cables from this tower.
The longest span is 240 meters with shorter spans as the cables the approach the pylon. The main span would qualify as one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world.
